Oval: Blue Hawaii
By Kit Macdonald

Montreal duo Blue Hawaii have been ploughing their romantic, gauzy furrow for 15 years now, fusing elements of dream pop, house and ambient and charting the development of their own personal relationship with releases like 2013's Untogether, which pivoted on themes of distance and emotional disconnection, topics they've made hay from again and again over the intervening years.
Recent releases, such as their anthem I Felt Love and a big-room rave remix, and last year's Diamond Shovel album, have taken Blue Hawaii into more dance floor-focused realms, with punchy, high-bpm percussion and Euro-trance basslines and keys. At the end of last year they released a euphoric cover of Cindy Lauper's Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, presumably worked up on the road. All of which suggests a high likelihood that this show will be more party than introspection session.
