Paz Errázuriz
By Charlotte Stace
Chilean photographer, Paz Errázuriz, strives to portray the political and sociological context of the society she captures on film. Her images are strongly committed to giving a voice to those who are not usually heard. In this way, she presents images of marginalised characters that encourage us to offer nothing but respect and solidarity.
A self-taught photographer, she was motivated by her interest in exploring the reality of those on the margins of society. She set out, with virtually no reference point, to capture children, the elderly, psychiatric institution professionals, transsexuals, prostitutes, and more recently, Native Americans.
Errázuriz delves into the most uncomfortable corners of everyday life in Chile, presenting those who mark, even without an explicit desire to criticise, different forms of resistance to the rules imposed. The Fundación Mapfre now presents a selection of her work which has been curated by Carlos Gollonet.
