Perc
By Kit Macdonald
The prominence in the techno firmament of Ali Wells, aka London DJ, producer and label owner Perc, has waxed and waned somewhat over the years, with his excellent, critically adored full-length albums tending to bring with them periods in the spotlight. What he has brought to the table has never changed, though: hard as nails techno with a deep guiding intelligence and no little amount of humour: the title of his 2019 EP Three Tracks to Send to Your Ghost Producer, for example, was a laser-guided barb aimed at the "endless wave of rip-offs, rehashes and re-edits" of Look What Your Love Has Done To Me, the biggest single from his 2017 album, Bitter Music.
Running his Perc Trax label since 2004 and DJing and producing since a few years before that has given Wells the kind of deep knowledge of how to move a dancefloor that only decades of dedication can bring, and this set in one of the city's more interesting venues is not to be missed if you like your techno compromise-free. Support comes from locals 753 and TONNO and France''s Krypton and Esilise.
