Polifonic Showcase (Gerd Jansen b2b Ata, Nicola Mazzetti)
By Kit Macdonald
Polifonic Festival began in Puglia, Italy, and has added a Milan edition of late, with superbly curated bills at both. The record label arm of the operation is interestingly represented by two Germans here, as Gerd Jansen goes b2b with Ata. Jansen is the quintessential DJs' DJ, a longtime colossus of the scene in his home country who could only be kept secret from the world for so long. He's famous for shaping familiar tracks into extraordinary new shapes, as well as introducing future club staples months in advance. Ata is a founder of the labels Playhouse, Klang and Ongaku and also runs the 250-capacity Robert Johnson club in Offenbach where Jansen ran his long-running Liquid night with Thomas Hammann.
Nicola Mazzetti, the founder of the Serendeepity record store in Milan, is also on the bill for the Polifonic Showcase, while Boys Noize and Aroh take the reins upstairs.
