La Virreina welcomes an exhibition on the work of Canadian photographer Jeff Wall. Since the 1980s, Wall’s work has largely contributed to defining and redefining photography as a medium and part of the contemporary art scene. His practice of the tableau or photographic picture inherits from the history of painting its key principle: composition.

The exhibition presents 35 artworks which are taken from the almost 200 photographs Wall has produced since 1978. Formed piece by piece, the ensemble is both dense and varied, crossed by recurrences and intersecting themes. Each of the images forms part of a larger variety of registers and modes of expression, which take us from the description of one’s surroundings to the beginnings of possible stories and points of reflection.

The exhibition has been curated by Jean-François Chevrier with Élia Pijollet.
