Ricardo Villalobos
By Kit Macdonald
A few years ago, when Ricardo Villalobos started closing his DJ sets with what some considered a "questionable" old pop track, the standard reaction was: "it's Ricardo, he's earned the right to do whatever he wants". That succinctly sums up the lofty place the Chilean-born German DJ and producer has held in electronic music for at least 15 years now. Equally revered for LPs such as Alcachofa (2003) and Thé Au Harem d'Archimède (2004) that shaped the genres of micro-house and minimal techno, and his marathon DJ sets, Villalobos is nothing less than a God in the house and techno firmament, and scenes of devotion will undoubtedly greet this set at Nitsa.
Lumiere provides support for Villalobos upstairs in Nitsa. For this evening Nitsa and Astin (the downstairs floor at Apolo) will be treated as separate venues with separate tickets. Astin will welcome Princess Superstar and Uffie for a b2b DJ set, plus a live set from Bassvictim and a second b2b, this one between Montenegro and Julietta Ferrari.
