Rosalie Cunningham
By Kit Macdonald
Rosalie Cunningham spent a decade and more in the band-member trenches with Ipso Facto (disbanded 2009) and then Purson (disbanded 2017), before declaring her future intentions with stark clarity. "I feel strongly drawn to a more DIY approach to my career in music, and look forward to the freedom to explore many avenues as a solo artist," she said in the wake of Purson's break-up, the shackles of having to accommodate a number of other "creative forces" at all times almost audibly being thrown off at the same time.
Her solo career has gone from strength to strength since the release of her self-titled debut solo LP in 2019, and this tour with her (session) band is to promote her third solo full-length, the slightly Bond film-sounding To Shoot Another Day. Fans of literate, lyrically surreal and musically sophisticated English singers like Kate Bush and Syd Barrett would be well advised to check her out.
