Shadowland first birthday party

With 10 events already under their belts in their first year of existence, it's been clear from the start that the people behind Shadowland aren't messing around. This enormous, two-room first-birthday extravaganza will do nothing to quell their rapidly burgeoning reputation as the hardest-working promoters in jackhammer techno. Top of a bill that runs into double figures is the UK-born DJ and producer Lesser Of (pictured), whose many releases on labels such as Noise Manifesto, Sacred Court, Green Fetish and The Brutalist tend to leaven their ruthless, combative rhythms with ethereal background touches. A sound that is "as driving as it is punitive", but that also isn't too relentlessly dark.

Much of the rest of the bill is drawn from what is clearly a thriving indigenous dark techno scene, with most of the artists coming from Barcelona or Madrid and a couple of Argentinians in the mix too. Room one plays host to Carmilla Sioux, Iankodark, Storüng, Scha, and Volkstum vs Nicop.exe live, while room two features sets by Alrha, Babylon Whore, Dominer vs Hexerei, No-G, PLX and Roxanne.
