Spring Forward
By Sophie Cameron
Dancers and choreographers from across Europe take to Barcelona’s stages with Spring Forward, a festival created by Aerowaves, a network dedicated to finding the continent’s most innovative young choreographers.
Previously held Ljubljana, Zürich and Umeå, Spring Forward arrives in Barcelona with an edition featuring some 20 companies. Opening the show on April 17th is British dancer Dan Canham, performing an elegy for a lost theater and the communities it left behind in 30 Cecil Street.
The next day’s highlights include Miss Lithuania by Vilma Pitrinaite and We Company, which follows a young girl’s transformation from idealistic patriot to warped model, while Dutch choreographers Karel van Laere and Vanja Rukavina will close the festival with Bokko, a fast-paced foray into a world inspired by manga and South Korean dance crazes.
