The Mirror has Two Faces

La Filmoteca shows The Mirror Has Two Faces (1996), an American romantic comedy-drama produced and directed by Barbra Streisand, who stars as the main character. Alongside Streisand, the film also stars some of Hollywood’s biggest names: Jeff Bridges, Pierce Brosnan, Lauren Bacall, Mimi Rogers, Elle Macpherson, and George Segal.
The film follows the life of Rose, a middle-aged English literature professor at Columbia University, who has had trouble with love all her life. She meets Gregory, also a professor at Columbia university, who believes that sex ruins relationships. Greogory asks Rose to marry him, on the condition that the marriage remains platonic. At first, she agrees, but struggles when she develops deeper feelings for him.
The film was well-received, earning two Academy Award nominations, and its soundtrack ‘I Finally Found Someone’ performed by Streisand and Bryan Adams was an instant hit.
