Unknown City Beneath the Mist

MACBA welcomes a new photographic project that puts Barcelona at the forefront. It takes the suburbs - which came into being due to postwar migration into Barcelona - as its starting point. Its aim is to shine a light on local photographic projects about urban development since the Olympic era.
Historically, the periphery has always been the most innovative and creative part, the place where emerging trends first manifest themselves. Hence, a project about the periphery works to provide insight into potential future evolutions of Barcelona and its architecture in the coming years.
The suburbs in question will look at two main areas: the north and north-west zone, from the Besòs River to the hills of Collserola; and the south and south-east zone, which includes the historic centre of the Raval and the Gothic Quarter, and behind Montjuïc, which borders with the harbour and the Zona Franca.
