Wallay! 2024
By Charlotte Stace
Wallay! Festival is Barcelona’s major African Film Festival, which continues its fascinating journey through the creativity and diversity of the continent, narrated through cinema.
Now in its 7th edition, this year it will delve into the power of beliefs, the depth of absences, and getting lost in the tangled web of roots that make up the foundation of our lives. From the Congo to the Sahel, from Nigeria to the Indian Ocean, and jumping from the pains of the past to the hopes of the future, Wallay! Brings us magic and exploration once more.
This year’s inauguration kicks off with a screening of the film Augure with its director Baloji and guests Nganji Mutiri and Bernadette Vivuya. Other standout films this year include Mami Wata by C.J. Obasi, Juwaa by Nganji Mutiri, and Stop Filming Us But Listen by Bernadette Vivuya and Kagoma Twahirwa.
