Funky Bakers
By Charlotte Stace
In 2018, Funky Bakers was opened in El Born as a deli-bakery. After enchanting locals and passers-by in the neighbourhood, in 2021 Funky Bakers Deli - a gourmet shop - opened its doors in La Dreta de l'Eixample. Now, Funky Bakers opens its first restaurant, Funky Bakers Eatery on the corner with Bailén and Diputación. Its aim? To offer an authentic gastronomic journey around the planet.
The new restaurant, bar, cafe and bakery’s menu reflects both founder Seyma's experiences around the world and her Turkish cultural heritage, as well as Asian, American and European food. We recommend the 'challah', a Hebrew bread eaten during Shabbat, as well as the halloumi fried with oregano and honey, oysters with brown butter, parsley and chilli, or the bikini with truffled pecorino. Or try the chickpea stew cooked with coconut milk and turmeric, fresh mint and a spoonful of spicy cold Greek yoghourt. Delish!
