Ocaña
By Michael Mueller
This ambitious space is one of your best options at Plaça Reial. Yes, there are hordes of tourists, but locals actually go there too. The prices are reasonable given what they could be charging. And the interior design is stunning. Those are real candles on the chandeliers!
Ocaña is actually four spaces in one: a café, the club downstairs (temporarily closed), the Apotheke cocktail bar also downstairs and D.F., Ocaña’s new Mexican restaurant. They serve up traditional fare like tacos and quesadillas with flair, but why not go for something more creative like braised pork cheeks with Mexican chocolate sauce, salpicón and chorizo tamales? The ceviche is great too.
Wash it all down with one of their many tequilas or types of Mezcal… have a few too many and you’ll forget you’re in Barcelona.
