Adolf Fargnoli
By Charlotte Stace
MNAC’s new exhibition catapults us into the fascinating universe of Adolf Fargnoli. Hailing from Italy, he left a significant mark in the world of Girona’s Noucentisme.
Fargnoli emerged as a virtuoso of wood carving, standing out for his incredible chests with metal applications and silk-lined interiors, each with a poetic name that characterised them. The artist became something of a myth of Noucentista Girona - he was acclaimed by critics, artists and intellectuals. However, in the early 1930s he became fascinated by Hollywood aeWsthetics, developing his creations called "D'Annali", which was a line of women's jewellery that, unfortunately, never came to fruition. Following this, he suffered a nervous breakdown and a creative decline. This exhibition brings a number of his works to the public and learn about the rich history of this talented and multifaceted artist.
