Cinema and fashion
By Charlotte Stace
CaixaForum’s new exhibition deals with the exchanges and influences that occur between cinema and fashion, a creative relationship seen through the particular gaze of Jean Paul Gaultier, co-curator and artistic director of the exhibition.
Beyond mythomania, it covers the contexts of creation, both in clothing and in films, and introduces us to ideas of modernity, the future and eroticism. It also offers a sociological approach by addressing issues such as emancipation movements and how these are reflected in the fashion and filmography of the time.
Likewise, the exhibition brings us closer to the idea of industry from different professionals involved in creative exchanges: directors, designers, actors and actresses. To this end, CaixaForum brings together a heterogeneous set of pieces made up of clothing, posters, photographs and film fragments, most of which come from the prestigious collection of La Cinémathèque Française and which are complemented by works by more than twenty national and international lenders.
