CosmoCaixa is kicking off 2023 with a new selection of projections of classic ballets, documentaries and films. This January, they bring us a showing of the ballet Don Quijote performed by the Dutch National Ballet.
This ballet, inspired by one of the episodes of the classic novel by Miguel de Cervantes, and set in Barcelona, was created by the French choreographer Marius Petipa and the composer Lugwig Minkus with the Moscow Bolshoi Ballet in 1969.
On this occasion, the choreographer Alexei Ratmansky and the Dutch National Ballet return to Petipa's original script to explore and choreograph again the story of two young lovers: Kitri and Basilio, in whose lives the famous hidalgo and his usual companion, Sancho Panza, stumble.
Led by dancers Anna Tsygankova and Matthew Golding, they lead a magical and enrapturing performance of the Spanish classic.
