Eveli Torent
By Charlotte Stace
MNAC presents an exhibition exploring the life and legacy of the Catalan painter and illustrator Eveli Torent, a lesser-known but influential artist from Barcelona’s Modernisme movement.
Born in 1876, Torent’s early artistic steps were connected with the vibrant scene at Els 4 Gats, where he mixed with figures like Pablo Picasso and Carles Casagemas. This exhibition follows his journey as an illustrator for Catalan and Parisian magazines and his adventurous travels to Paris and New York, where he became involved in Hispanic social circles and philanthropic bodies close to Masonry.
Returning to Barcelona in 1919, he continued his artistic pursuits and began teaching. In 1922, he acquired Torre d’en Rovira in Eivissa and transformed it into a summer artistic retreat and an archaeological museum. Visitors will discover his creative and eccentric spirit through this exciting and unique showcase of his artistic evolution.
