Juneteenth Barcelona
By Charlotte Stace

Juneteenth Barcelona is a joyful celebration of African diaspora culture, community and liberation, bringing together music, food, performance, markets and shared history. Rooted in the commemoration of June 19, 1865 - when the last enslaved African Americans in Texas were informed of their freedom - the event gives the day a community spirit that is proudly diasporic.
The programme mixes live music, DJs, stand-up, dance and special performances, with names including Club Clap Back, Tina Masawi, Voodoo System, RITMO SANTO, Quimsa, Nnamany, LEDET, Clément Esso, Solomane, Serial P, La Ká, Nikah NiChe, Djrodycr and MAGIIKK. There’s also a rollerskating performance from Ceci Heather.
Food and market culture are central too, with Haitian cuisine, New Orleans Creole, African dishes, Indian food, soul food, artisanal ice cream, cocktails, jewellery, textiles, beauty products and art.
