MonoNeon
By Charlotte Stace
As part of the Voll-Damm festival this year, MonoNeon comes to Sala La Paloma. The stage name of Dywane Thomas, Jr., an American experimental bassist, singer and songwriter, MonoNeon first burst onto the scene in 2014 after catching Prince’s attention. After his manager reached out, the musician began work at Paisley Park in 2015 as a bassist for Judith Hill, before working with Prince in a new band during the last year of his life.
Always hidden under a face mask and glasses, he’s collaborated with some of the biggest names in music, as well as cultivated an impressive repertoire as a solo musician. He uses his bass to fuse rhythms ranging from funk, jazz and soul to moments of trance. Having already recorded over 20 albums, he’s back with a new one this year: Quilted Stereo (2024).
