TIME PASSAGES 10 YEARS with The Hacker, OMAR & Binh
By Kit Macdonald
In the early 2000s, already more than a decade into his career, French producer The Hacker and his friend and collaborator Miss Kittin were accidentally swept up in "elecroclash", the short-lived faux-glitzy retro electro-pop genre that is still the gold standard for empty musical fads all these years later. The Hacker, aka Michel Amato, was always destined to transcend such fripperies - he started making music in 1989 at the age of 16 and released his first records soon afterwards, naming himself The Hacker after a Jeff Mills track. He has been producing superb electro-inflected techno ever since, weaving DJ sets that hit the same sweet spot, and even periodically reviving his partnership with Miss Kittin to enjoyable effect.
This party celebrates 10 years of the Time Passages label, which was founded by the much-loved Berlin DJ and longtime Club Der Visionaere resident Binh. He appears alongside the Uruguayan DJ/producer and sometime Time Passages artist OMAR on a bill that makes mortgaging one's Friday look deeply tempting.
