Urbes
By Charlotte Stace
MEAM welcomes the exhibition Urbes, Contemporary Landscapes, featuring around 40 works by contemporary figurative artists who seek to capture the essence and diversity of modern cities.
The exhibition looks at how contemporary artists represent the reality of their urban environment, establishing a dialogue between construction and destruction, between the individual and the collective. The works on show invite the viewer to consider the continually changing vista of urban life, driven by progress and environmental, political and cultural challenges city’s face daily.
The distinctive architecture and iconic buildings of cities around the world are put on show, as well as hidden corners and fleeting scenes of nightlife, while some artworks look at the tensions between the natural and the artificial in urban scenes. Ultimately, Urbes reminds us of the need for greater environmental awareness and urges us to consider a sustainable balance between urban development and environmental conservation.
The exhibition is running until January 2025. Entrance is 13 Euros.
