Haldi
By Michael Mueller

The Gujarati team that runs Haldi serves an entirely vegetarian menu, with khandvi, kachori and a Gujarati thali at this small restaurant on Carrer del Carme. They’ve been here since about 2022, with inexpensive food and a name taken from the Hindi word for turmeric. Pani puri is the specialty, among a selection of street-food chaat that includes dahi puri and bhel puri. The kitchen also makes Punjabi chole bhature and dal makhani here in the Raval, as well as vegetable pakora, dal tadka and baingan bharta. Paneer tikka arrives on a sizzling plate, and there’s masala chai to drink.
One customer who avoids onion and garlic came back for dinner on all three days of a trip, since the cooks will leave both out on request. The menu includes paneer and other dairy dishes.
