Koy Shunka
By Sophie Cameron
Twenty-nine of Barcelona’s restaurant made it into the 2019 Michelin Guide, including a returning favorite in Koy Shunka. Located in the Barri Gòtic, this spacious locale is said to be one of these best Japanese restaurants in Europe, offering creative dishes with impeccable presentation and incredible flavors.
Though à la carte options are also available, for the full experience opt for a tasting menu – there are sure to be at least a few dishes you’ll still be raving about months later. Plates get progressively larger as you move through the menu, including a generous helping of sushi and sashimi, so it’s best to go on an empty stomach. The Koy menu will set you back €89, or €108 with an extra dish such as beef, while the (G)astro menu is set at €132.
Pricey, yes, but for sushi aficionados looking to expand their palettes it’s more than worth it. Ask for a seat at the bar and watch the master chefs at work.
