Makamaka

Since 2012, Makamaka has been serving burgers and cocktails a short walk from Barceloneta beach. This casual café-bar borrows its look from 1970s surf culture, with neon, tropical decor and a big terrace on Passeig de Joan de Borbó.
Founders Steef and Andrea shared a flat in Amsterdam before opening the place. Makamaka, Hawaiian for a close friend, was Steef’s nickname for Andrea. It’s an appropriately sociable beginning for a casual café-bar where the terrace and cocktails are as much a part of the appeal as the food. The staff’s friendly banter gets plenty of affection, too.
The burgers are big, with beef and veggie options. A smash burger comes with fries and homemade lemonade, and recent customers have singled out the raclette burger. Beyond the burgers, the menu covers wraps, bowls, açaí and smoothies.
The sunny terrace calls for a drink. Try a spicy margarita or an Aperol spritz; the smoothies have their fans as well. Makamaka takes reservations and offers delivery.
