Calçotada popular de la Assoc. de veïns i veïnes de la Font de la Guatlla
By Charlotte Stace

A Calçotada Popular is one of the region’s most anticipated food traditions, and this neighbourhood version is all about community, smoke and seriously good eating. And if you’ve not been to one before, calçots (sweet, spring onions) are grilled over open flames until charred, then peeled by hand and dunked into romesco sauce, usually followed by hearty classics like grilled meats, bread, and a glass (or two) of wine. Perfection!
Organised by the Font de la Guatlla neighbourhood association, this is a local gathering with long tables, lively conversation, and that cosy feeling of joining something truly Catalan rather than touristy. Expect a relaxed, family-welcome atmosphere and the kind of communal lunch that turns into a long afternoon of merriment.
Come hungry, wear something you don’t mind getting a little smoky, and get stuck in - expect messy hands and to leave feeling like you’ll never eat again.
