Drew McDowall
By Kit Macdonald

A chance to see one of the key figures in UK experimental music of the past half century here, and at a knockdown price of €17. Born in Glasgow in 1961, Drew McDowall was part of the city’s impossibly fertile post-punk scene in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and worked with The Poems before moving to London. There he became immersed in the industrial and avant-garde underground and worked with the doyens of that scene, including Psychic TV and Genesis P-Orridge. He joined Coil in the early 1990s and played a central role in their transition from harsh noise band to purveyors of densely textured, ritualistic ambient.
Since the deaths of John Balance and Peter Christopherson led to the end of Coil, McDowall has been releasing darkly immersive solo works (Collapse from 2015 and Agalma from 2020 are recommended pre-show listening) and turning in the sort of seance-like live shows that can be expected here. Doors at 8pm and the show will start at 8.30pm sharp.
