Jose Guerrero
By Charlotte Stace

The KBr Photography Center hosts a new exhibition on the work of José Guerrero (Granada, 1979). Through his art, he explores landscapes as dynamic entities shaped by culture and collective memory. Rejecting the idea of nature as separate from human influence, he captures places rich in iconographic and historical significance, such as La Mancha, Carrara and the Thames, in order to highlight their evolving relationships, tensions and solidarities.
Guerrero’s approach relies on the viewer’s own cultural memory to shape the meaning of these images. Through the masterful use of light, colour and atmosphere, he constructs poetic interpretations that blend representation with experimentation.
çThis exhibition showcases over 20 years of his career, featuring works from the Fundación MAPFRE Collections and institutional loans. The display follows a narrative itinerary, weaving together recurring themes like light and darkness, transparency and opacity, documentary and abstraction. The result? A glimpse into the ever-shifting perspective of landscapes and their significance.
