Juana Molina
By Charlotte Stace

The Argentine singer-songwriter Juana Molina first became famous in the 1990s as a comedian and actress, before stepping away from television to pursue music full-time - a move that ended up reshaping her career entirely. Since then, she’s built a body of work that blends a mix of genres like folktronica, experimental pop, looping guitars and hypnotic vocals into something instantly recognisable as her own.
That journey is part of what makes her such an interesting figure. Born into an artistic family in Buenos Aires, she grew up around music, spent part of her youth in Paris after her family left Argentina during the dictatorship, and went on to develop a unique sound of her own. Albums such as Segundo (2000), Son (2006), Un día (2008) and Halo (2017) helped establish her as one of Latin America’s most original experimental voices.
