Júníus Meyvant
By Charlotte Stace

Icelandic singer-songwriter Júníus Meyvant - real name Unnar Gísli Sigurmundsson - is known for his warm blend of alt-indie, folk and soul. His breakout single, “Colour Decay” (2014), drew early praise with NPR calling describing his style as “soul-stirring melodies from way up north,” and KEXP-FM naming it “Song of the Day”.
As a young boy he only loved two things, skateboarding and painting. It wasn’t until his early twenties when he found an old guitar lying around at his parents house that he started playing music and eventually writing his own songs.
His music weaves together heartfelt lyrics, vintage-style arrangements, and a certain Icelandic melancholy wrapped in soulful warmth. It’s a style that has earned him three Iceland Music Awards and a loyal following. To date, he’s released three studio albums: his debut Floating Harmonies (2016), followed by Across The Borders (2019) and Guru (2022).
