Sara Parkman
By Kit Macdonald

One of the most distinctive and brilliant voices in contemporary Scandinavian folk music, Sara Parkman has built a stellar reputation by combining traditional Swedish fiddle music with politically charged lyrics, experimental arrangements and theatrical performance. Raised in a religious community in northern Sweden (if your mind doesn't immediately jump to the film Midsommar at this point then you should see Midsommar as soon as possible) and trained in folk traditions from an early age, Parkman draws on regional melodies and rituals and reshapes them into urgent and modern shapes.
Albums including Vesper and Eros Agape Philia mix choral textures, electronic production and fiddle-driven folk into emotional compositions. She is, by all accounts, amazing live, so make sure you're at Casa Montjuic in good time – she's onstage at 8.30pm.
