Black Devil Disco Club (Live)
By Kit Macdonald

Bernard Fèvre started his legendary, and that over-used word is entirely appropriate here, disco project way back in 1978 with the six-track Disco Club EP. It flew largely under the radar until 2006 when Aphex Twin's label Rephlex reissued what some at the time believed to be a "hoax" record. The press sheet from that release is worth enjoying at length and tells you a lot about Fevre's project:
"Originally released on Out Records way back in 1978, Black Devil’s "Disco Club" is an extremely rare disco masterpiece, an epic journey into the deepest electronic disco ... The record was discovered by Rephlex’s own PP Roy for 20p at a car boot sale, and quickly found favour with friends Richard D. James and Luke Vibert … It was made manually in a recording studio in the suburbs of Paris using synths and occasional tape loops and a drummer: no midi or computers.
"Since then Fevre has continued to develop Black Devil Disco Club via a steady stream of albums, but the chance to see him play live comes along only rarely. Doors are at 7pm and support comes from Charlie Levan, Julian Reca and Entrenador.
