MNAC hosts Ink against Hitler, an exhibition uncovering the extraordinary story of Mario Armengol Torrella, the only Catalan and Spanish artist who worked extensively for Allied propaganda during the Second World War. Between 1941 and 1945, Armengol created around two thousand caricatures for the British Ministry of Information, which were published across newspapers and magazines from New Zealand to Haiti, aiming sharp satire against the Third Reich and Axis powers.

The exhibition brings together a selection of his preserved originals alongside the international publications that first printed them. This makes it one of the most extensive collections of political satire from the war, offering visitors a fresh lens on one of history’s darkest conflicts. Armengol’s rediscovered legacy stands shoulder to shoulder with the celebrated British cartoonists of his time, including David Low, Giles and Illingworth.

Caricaturing leaders, battlefronts, and propaganda narratives with wit and bite, Armengol fused international themes with Catalunya’s rich satirical tradition.
