Jeff Mills: Live at Liquid Room 30th Anniversary
By Charlotte Stace

Jeff Mills' Live at the Liquid Room album – the recording of a legendary 1995 set in Tokyo by the Detroit techno originator which was released the following year – was no slow-burn success story. It was instantly recognised by those in the know as one of the very best examples of the genre, and early internet music forums (the ones frequented by myself at least) were full of users keenly brandishing it as one oif their favourite techno records. Live at the Liquid Room has never left this exalted position, hence the need for a 30th-anniversary tour that takes in not one but two dates at Nitsa this weekend.
Friday's party runs on roughly normal clubbing hours, though doors open at 10pm and at 11pm there is a special screening of the video version of the album, including never-before-seen material. Mills himself will play two sets after the screening, with a set from the Portuguese techno artist Nørbak in the middle. Sunday's party, meanwhile, should be friendlier to the sleeping patterns of Mills' older fans. Doors are at 5pm and the screening at 6pm, before Mills and Spanish techno pioneer Angel Molina take to the decks until 11pm.
