Joan Miro anti portrait gallery
By Charlotte Stace

The Fundació Joan Miró presents Anti‑Portrait, a display of large-format engravings and paintings from Miró’s later period. The exhibition features a short series of works, each depicting frontal figures - ranging from human to primitive and even mythological - set against celestial symbols and dreamlike backgrounds.
Miró’s experimentation with printmaking techniques, such as etching, aquatint and carborundum, allowed him to creatively explore new capabilities with portraiture. Above all, the exhibition highlights his famously unconventional approach to making portraits.
He was known for his bold approach to art, often rejecting traditional techniques and academic styles in favour of surrealism and symbolism. He developed a unique visual language filled with iconic shapes, cosmic motifs and otherworldly forms. This exhibition is a further celebration and exploration of Miró’s artistic style that invites us deep inside his imaginative world.
