Terence Fixmer
By Kit Macdonald
French producer Terence Fixmer came to sudden prominence around the turn of the century with a pair of "techno body music" classics in "Electrostatic" and "Body Pressure", standouts on a standout album, Muscle Machine. Unlike a fair few of his labelmates on DJ Hell's International DJ Gigolos label, Fixmer had the substance and talent to transcend his early-00s fame, and he has built an impressive, surprisingly varied body of work in the years since.
Heavily influenced by 80s EBM legends Nitzer Ebb from the get-go, Fixmer subsequently got to live out the musical equivalent of the kid being summoned from the stands to play for his favourite team in the cup final by forming the long-running Fixmer/McCarthy project with Nitzer Ebb's frontman Douglas McCarthy. Fixmer has continued to pull up trees as a solo artist in the meantime, perfecting his brand of driving, aggressive techno while also exploring all manner of avant-garde sidestreets.
